A village near Ascot has been named one of the poshest area’s in the UK and number one in the Berkshire countryside.

In a recent survey for the Daily Telegraph, a list of the UK's poshest villages was produced comparing features such as transport links, highest house prices, and best lifestyle amenities in each corner of the country.

From film locations to royal neighbouroods these villages offer what most people save up years to own.

The Berkshire village that was selected was the ‘super village’ of Sunningdale.

Located on the outskirts of Ascot this little piece of nirvana has been dubbed as poshest in Berkshire for some very obscure reasons.

While the wide array of eatery’s and French cuisine bistros certainly set it apart from the rest, it is the presence of a Waitrose and a train station that has been highlighted as two of Sunningdale’s main features in the survey.

The telegraph said: "Sunningdale would qualify as a 'super' village, with plenty going on. There’s a wide choice of places to eat, such as French cuisine at La Cloche at the Carpenters or casual brunch at Eliane of Sunningdale. There’s a Waitrose and a train station and it suits those moving out of London who still want urban lifestyle amenities but also to be on the doorstep of open countryside."

‘Super villages’ in neighbouring counties include Turville in Buckinghamshire, which is famous for it’s feature in Killing Eve and 16th century cottages, and pubs.

The research was conducted by an analyst at Savills’ exclusive research and details 54 counties throughout the UK.

The average house price for a property in Sunningdale has been £1,435,001 over the last year.

According to ‘Rightmove’ the majority of sales in Sunningdale were detached properties, selling for an average price of £2,213,863. Flats sold for an average of £616,653, with semi-detached properties fetching £570,632.

Overall, sold prices in Sunningdale over the last year were 29% up on the previous year and 25% up on the 2019 peak of £1,144,840.

You will also find a few royal estates and mansions in the village within the grounds of Sunnigdale Park.

The grade II listed manor house known as Northcote Mansion is in the process of being renovated into a state-of-the-art country club and centre of the new Audley retirement village.

For most of the country the pandemic gave them a chance to reflect on their living arrangement with many moving out of big cities for a touch of country life. The estate agent Knight Frank has reported the highest number of sales in the country market for 15 years, with the number of wannabe buyers registering up 35 per cent last year.

With great access to the city, fantastic cuisine and a few royal neighbours it is hardly surprising that Sunningdale has come out as Berkshire’s village with the highest ‘posh appeal’ and best quality of life.
