Redevelopment of the Broadmoor hospital site has been given an end date with plans for the former site still pending, NHS official said.

The first stage of the redevelopment , which included a £250 million rebuild opened to staff and patients on December 16 in 2019, on the land of the 150-year-old Victorian home.

Following the opening in 2019, phase two began to re-design the landscaping around the new building. Most of this includes the New hospital site, however according to the West London NHS trust a small section of the old buildings will be used.

Richard Mountford, the deputy director of communications said: “We’re aiming to have the redevopment done by the end of the calander year Likely around autumn, winter time.

“The old site is due to be marketed also around the same time. The old Broadmoor hospital is still there at the moment and is about to be sold off.”

Phase 2 of the redevelopment project included, constructing the new horticultural area, developing an outdoor multi use games area and completing final landscaping for the new hospital.

At this point in redevelopment, underground works have been completed to remove redundant services and earthworks have been completed to level out the site

In the near future new building are to be added to the site and therefore preparation for the construction of the new buildings has started.

Mr Mountford said: "Nothing has been planned for the original Victorian building however ‘there will be some planning regulations for whoever purchases the old building when it is put on the market.’

This is due to some of the older buildings being listed, including the surrounding landscape which has been recorded an ‘at-risk’ listed site by ‘Historical England’.
