To get ahead of thieves, Thames Valley Police are encouraging residents to consider the following theft prevention tips:
- Try not to keep high-value jewellery at home and consider using a bank safety box instead
- Invest in a home safe that is suitable for protecting jewellery
- Photograph and keep an inventory of your jewellery and take a picture of the jewellery against a plain background next to a ruler to give an idea of size.
- Do not post pictures of jewellery on social media and do not post when you are away from home
- Make sure your home is secure at all times
- Set your house alarm if you have one and consider purchasing a video doorbell or CCTV system.
- Use forensic marking to identify your jewellery
