We have rounded up some of the biggest stories from Bracknell this week, just in case you missed them.

1. Home Bargains: Hundreds of shoppers expected to flock to new store

The new Home Bargain’s opened on Saturday (February 26) in Bracknell and it was all hands on deck to welcome excited shoppers insdie the store.

The doors of the discount giant opened at 8am this morning with queues of people waiting in zero-degree weather to get the first look.

Hundreds of shoppers are expected to bombard the store and the question on everyone’s lips is what the discount retailer will offer Bracknell.

The News were given the privilege to be allowed a first look at the store before it was opened, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint expectations.

A local resident, Tamsin said: I think it’s really good so far. Compared to the one in Reading which is a lot smaller you’ve got a variety of a lot of other things that you haven’t got there, like the clothes and other bits and bobs.

2. Co-op stores opening in Wokingham this week

Bracknell News:

TWO Co-op stores have opened in Wokingham as part of a £1.1 million investment.

On Thursday, March 3, a Co-op store in Montague Park, Beechy Place will be opening creating 20 new jobs for the community.

This comes after the Matthews Green shop opened on Thursday, February 24 in Paley Court, Queen's Road.

This has also created 20 new jobs in the area.

Both stores offer an in-store bakery and a chilled food-to-go range, as well as essential grocery items, from fruit and vegetables and fresh meat to a range of wines, spirits and chilled beers.

The stores will also have National Lottery and PayPoint terminals as well as a Hermes ParcelShop.

Darren Adams, head of convenience stores at The Midcounties Co-operative, said: “We’re so excited to be opening the doors of our brand-new convenience stores in Wokingham and can’t wait to meet the local community.

3. Russia invasion: Bracknell woman's plea as husband trapped in Ukraine

Bracknell News:

A helpless woman feels scared for her husband who is trapped in Ukraine in the middle of a warzone.

Natalia Vil from Bracknell spoke of her fears for her husband's safety and desperately 'wants to be by his side'.

The pair have three children together, a 14, 15 and an 18 month old baby -- therefore she has to stay put in England.

Her husband Andrey flew out to Ukraine on to visit his mother but is currently unable to return.

He is one of the many Ukrainian men who have been banned from leaving the country and told to join the army.

It comes after Russia launched a devastating attack on Ukraine on, a European democracy of 44 million people, and its forces are on the outskirts of the capital, Kyiv.

4. Black mould affects son's health after unsolved housing issue

Bracknell News:

A young mother is terrified for her son’s health after being placed in a mould invested flat for two years.

Janai Webb, who lives in a property in Oxford road, Reading has been dealing with a black mould problem since she moved into the building in late 2020.

At the time, she was heavily pregnant, homeless, and thought that the newly renovated flat which 'Bracknell Forest housing' offered to her in Reading was ‘perfect and entirely what her family needed.’

Not long after she began to notice mould coming through the walls, and was told that it was because of un-opened vents despite the lack of vents in the property.

Natalie Farrell, her mother in law said: “It got really bad and on the day that my grandson was born was on the December 11 2020, they had to take the windows out of the flat and have them replaced because they thought it was due to the fact the sealing round the window wasn’t good enough.”

5. Justin Cansdale: Bracknell man installed GPS on ex-wife's car

Bracknell News:

A family will no longer be tormented after a Bracknell man who followed his wife’s car using a GPS tracker was locked up.

Justin Cansdale, formerly of Wokingham Road, Bracknell, admitted to stalking his former spouse and children from April to September 2021.

The 49-year-old sent letters to his daughter which ‘made it clear’ he had been watching her after he referenced her change in hair colour, how fast she was driving and her new job despite being banned from contacting her.

This came after Cansdale was handed community orders for breaking into his family’s home using a ladder and sending his ex-wife more than 200 emails before the stalking started.
