UK petrol prices have hit a record high, as the cost of living crisis continues to hit consumers hard.
The average cost of petrol in the UK has risen by 5p since last week – meaning the price has risen to a staggering 154p per litre, according to RAC. At the same time, diesel prices have reached 158p per litre.
Consumers in Bracknell and Wokingham were already subjected to price hikes on energy due to supply problems, caused by an increase in demand post-pandemic, resulting in a spike in the wholesale cost of crude oil. However, this has been exasperated by the sanctions imposed on Russia after their invasion of Ukraine.

“With oil and gas prices surging dangerously again, will the U.K. government now ensure we produce more oil and gas at home to give us some hope?” asks Wokingham MP, John Redwood.
Whilst the UK only imports 6% of its crude oil from Russia, it is still at the mercy of the increase in wholesale prices. PM Boris Johnson warned recently of an impending UK energy price shock due to inflicting “pain” on Russia.
Energy price hikes could see residents of Bracknell and Wokingham facing annual bills exceeding £3,000 – meaning many are looking at how they can save money, as well as reducing their consumption. One such way is to shop around for the lowest prices.
