EARLIER this week, a man was arrested on suspicion of drug driving after hitting a young girl with his car in Reading.

A second pedestrian, a man in his thirties, was taken to Royal Berkshire Hospital alongside the girl after he sustained broken ribs following the incident on Tuesday, March 8.

A 33-year-old man from Reading was arrested on suspicion of two counts of driving without due care and attention and driving a vehicle with a proportion of a specific controlled drug above the specified limit.

However, no charges have yet been made and the arrested man has been released under investigation.

But since the turn of the year a number of Berkshire residents have been sentenced at Reading or Slough Magistrates’ Courts for driving under the influence of drugs.

Here are their names and the punishments they received.

MOHAMMAD ZAFAR, 24, of Castleview Road, Slough, Slough, admitted driving under the influence of cannabis and driving without insurance on Dorney Hill North, Beaconsfield, on November 25, 2020. Community order made. Banned from driving for 36 months. Requirement to take part in up to 20 days of rehabilitation activity days. Fined £230 and made to pay £180 in court fees. Sentenced January 10.

ALI SAMI, 64, of Fennel Close, Ascot, admitted driving under the influence of cocaine on the M25 in Rickmansworth on May 11, 2021. Banned from driving for 16 months. Fined £450 and made to pay £130 in court fees. Sentenced January 13.

BEN TAYLOR, 23, of Nine Mile Ride, Finchampstead, admitted driving under the influence of cannabis in Wokingham on July 31, 2020. Banned from driving for 14 months. Fined £400 and made to pay £540 in court fees. Sentenced January 14.

DANE MILLS, 24, of Scholars Walk, Slough, convicted of driving under the influence of cannabis on High Street, Langley, on November 6, 2019. Banned from driving for 12 months. Fined £250 and made to pay £654 in court fees. Sentenced January 24.

TOM SOUTHALL, 40, of Wheatley, Bracknell, admitted two counts of driving under the influence of cocaine in Bracknell on March 13, 2021. Fined £300 and made to pay £34 in court fees. Banned from driving for 12 months. Sentenced February 23.

GARRY WRIGHT, 56, of Reading Road, Pangbourne, admitted driving under the influence of cocaine in Thatcham on August 10, 2021. Community order made. Requirement to take part in up to 20 days of rehabilitation activities. Fined £200 and must pay £180 in court fees. Banned from driving for 15 months. Sentenced March 3.
