The owner of Bracknell Town FC is reaching out to Ukrainian nationals struggling to reunite family members stranded in mainland Europe.

Restrictions and red tape have meant that many Ukrainians trying to find a way to their families are being stopped despite UK Homeland guidelines.

This follows the behaviour that he witnessed while accompanying 17 year-old Marco who was offered a two-year scholarship with Bracknell’s education academy.

The owner and founder, Kayne Steinborn-Busse accelerated his arrival due to the Russian Invasion of Ukraine.

Despite Marco being accompanied by his sponsor Mr Steinborn-Busse and his uncle, who lives in the UK, border force staff in Callais turned him away.

Kayne explained: “Marco had us sorting everything out for him but some of the other families I seen at Callais probably didn’t have the resources that we have to be able to get him on a flight and a train to get him to the UK.

"What prompted me was the stories that I have been seeing about people stranded in Poland who have left the war torn country and don’t have the resources if they are stopped from entering despite their visa.

With many Ukrainians making their way as far west as possible to Poland, Kayne is planning alongside his wife, Sophie, to take two mini buses through the continent.

This will be to collect any family members that are stranded and unable to get to their reletives in the UK.

He explained: “While we’re making that journey back, we will help people do the application on our route back to England. I’ll make sure we take laptops, access to internet, so we can do the applications before they arrive in Callais.

“The reason I’m doing it now is because there is going to be some announcements coming out of the home office next week. I was with our MP today and what they are going to be able to do, is do it online.”

With the resources that he is offering, safe and legal passage from the mainland to the UK is their main priority.

The club owner says that while he has the resources to be able to overcome obstacles that are placed in their way, he is determined to help one’s that are not in that fortunate position.

"These people need help and that’s what we hope to give. We’ve helped one person so far and hopefully next week we’ll help more."
