A local library has become one of just a handful of net zero library buildings in the UK, Wokingham Borough Council has announced.
Woodley library on Headley Road is the first of its kind in the borough, having recently completed a series of improvements to make the building more efficient.
To achieve this, the council has positioned hundreds of solar panels on the roof for generating power and lowering emissions, as well as installing air source heat pumps to keep the building warm and creating a new wind lobby to reduce the amount of heat loss.

Executive member for resident services, communications and emissions, Councillor Gregor Murray, said: “We’re continuing to invest in our properties to make them more energy efficient and help reduce carbon emissions.
“This project is even more impressive as it’s involved retrofitting an older building to make it one of the most energy efficient properties in the borough.”
