A 12 year-old Crowthorne school girl has organised a five hour drumathon in an effort to raise money for Ukrainian women and children.

After hearing about the various circumstances in Ukraine through friends on her online drummers community, she was inspired to find a way to help.

This came when a close friend of the family opened a shelter in Poland for Ukrainian women and children to find safe refuge after fleeing the destruction of Ukraine.

Lola Teague, who attends Dolphin School in Hurst said: “I am hoping to raise money for supplies to help the refugees that are staying in the shelter.”

The five-hour drumathon is taking place on April 1 from 8am to 1pm beside the courts in Dolphin School in Hurst.

She explains: “The school has been so supportive. They have sent out emails to parents about how they can donate and because Friday is the last day before the Easter holidays, they have allowed it to be a fun day where my friends can join me throughout the day.

Lola, who has been drumming since the age of four attends lessons via Zoom with her tutor who is based in America.

Having smashed their previous target of £1000, the ambitious drummer has raised her end goal to £5000. With a dedicated Instagram following and support from her school she has received donations through her crowd funder from all over the world.

Mum, Elli Teague said: “We were so shocked when we smashed our first target within such a short amount of time. Everyone has just been so supportive.

“There is even a lad from the Ukrainian army that has contacted us to thank Lola for the donations she is raising for the people of Ukraine.”
