Local representatives from Ascot have met with Ukrainians living in the area to discuss how people from the embattled country can be assisted.
Members of the Ukrainian community attended a coffee morning held at All Souls Church in South Ascot last Friday, which was organised by councillors.
The event was organised by cllr David Hilton and attended by the Mayor of the Royal Borough cllr John Story.
Cllr Story’s address to the gathering was translated by Svetlana Yesman, a Ukrainian living near Ascot and who is one of the driving forces behind a successful delivery of aid to families in Ukraine.
Held as a fundraiser, the coffee morning raised £650 for a local Ukraine appeal.
You can donate to the appeal via Just Giving here.
Efforts to support Ukrainians are also being coordinated on the Ukraine Aid – Ascot Facebook page.
If you want to get involved in the Homes for Ukraine programme, you can sign up via the Government website.
Svetlana Yesman is willing to arrange a Zoom call to find out if you are a suitable match for the refugees.
Cllr Hilton can put you in touch, please email david@hiltonda.com .
Both cllrs Hilton and Story are Conservatives who represent the Ascot & Sunninghill ward.
