Months following the disaster that came with storm Eunice some Bracknell residents are still suffering with the after effects of the damage.

200 year old trees collapsed, houses were destroyed and insurance companies saw a mountain of housing claims.

Barbara McMinnies, a Bracknell resident has been left with a hole in her roof and a destroyed garden after a tree fell through her bungalow on February 18.

She said: “When the tree came down it went through the roof, ceiling and the fibre glass lining.

“At the time Silva Homes came and put blue plastic on the roof and gaffer tape on the ceiling but work has still not started months later. They have also left the garden a mess.”

On the day of the incident, Barbara was at the Royal Surrey hospital receiving radiotherapy and only on her return did she see the damage.

Due to the exposed roof and fiberglass particles within the property she has been forced to stay with a friend in Caversham for the last three months to protect herself from further lung damage.

Barbara explains: “I have spoken to Silva Homes and have got to the last stage of complaints. I’ve also attended one of their meetings to speak to the employees and nothing was done, even when I informed them that I was unwell.

“The first time they came out was on April 13. They have however said that the scaffolding will go up on May 6.”

Ms McMinnies has said that Cllr Michael Skinner from Bracknell Town Council has been fantastic when co-ordinating with different members of staff and getting the work started.

“My hope is that they are able to complete the work in the time scale that they have given me. They have promised that they will fix the roof both inside and out, retile, fix the TV aerial and re-do my garden which is currently sitting a mess,” she said.

A spokesperson from Silva Homes said: "This property suffered from major damage during storm Eunice in February when a tree fell onto it.

"Fortunately, no one was hurt, but it did mean the customer has had to move out of the property for a considerable amount of time.

"Before completing the repairs, we needed to do a full structural survey on the property to assess the damage and make sure that we can carry out all necessary works to make the property safe.

"We now know that the property needs a full roof replacement, and this is due to start next week. Once the roof replacement is completed, we will carry out several necessary internal repairs the following week before the customer returns home.

"We have also agreed to landscape the customer’s garden and the next-door garden, as these have been left unsightly after the fallen tree was removed."
