Constituents will be heading to the polls today to have their say in the crunch local elections.
Wokingham Borough Council has 18 wards going to the vote, which includes eleven currently held by the Conservatives, four by the Liberal Democrats, one by Labour, one by the Independent Group and one that is currently vacant.
Polling stations will slam shut at 10pm this evening, with the Wokingham count taking place tomorrow.

Conservative
If re-elected, the Conservative pledges include:
- Issuing grants for residents and businesses who are struggling.
- Freezing car parking charges in order to lower costs for consumers and encourage people to shop locally.
- Maintaining the Council Tax Reduction Scheme.
- Identifying those in need, react and resolve issues through their anti-poverty strategy.

Labour
If elected, Labour pledges include:
- Supporting earlier intervention for young people suffering from mental health conditions.
- Campaigning nationally for increases in school funding.
- Having a ‘pedestrian first’ approach to town centre’s.
- Creating safe defined cycle routes.

Liberal Democrats
If elected, the Liberal Democrat pledges include:
- Lobbying the government for a reduction in housing numbers allocated to Wokingham
- Increasing canopy cover by planting at least 300,000 trees and improving hedgerows.
- Aiming to reduce Children's & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) assessment waiting times from 2 years to 6 weeks.
- Lobbying central government to cover the council’s increased costs on social care reforms.

- Insulating houses to bring down energy bills.
- Boosting walking and cycling with 20mph zones.
- Investment in local shopping areas.
- More council housing, funding for tackling rough sleeping and licensing all landlords.
