Thousands attended Sunninghill and Ascot’s Platinum Party in the Park to celebrate the Queen’s jubilee.
Taking place on Thursday, June 2, people arrived in their droves throughout the afternoon and into the evening to see the lighting of the jubilee beacon at Victory Park, Sunninghill.
Bands, beer, and bakes kept people entertained throughout the night, with a fairground and pottery painting to keep the children busy.
When it came to the beacon lighting ceremony that evening, seven ambassadors, representing the seven decades of the Queen’s reign, had been nominated for their work in the community - Nicola Hughes, Rob Abell, Georgie Tindall, Hannah Brewer, Annie Andrews, Elaine Finch, and Alan Everett.
The beacon, a bonfire made by the 1st Sunningdale and South Ascot Scouts, was set alight at around 9.45pm to join the many thousands being lit across to UK, and many more across the Commonwealth.
More music and merriment followed the official ceremony, with Ascot families starting the long bank holiday weekend by partying long into the night.
A spokesperson for the Sunninghill and Ascot Parish Council said: “Sunninghill & Ascot Parish Council was delighted with the Platinum Party in the Park, which was attended by thousands on 2nd June at Victory Field, Sunninghill. The parish council extends its thanks to all the volunteers who came along to help make this such a successful and memorable event.”
