There are just a few weeks left of the school term, which means the summer holidays are getting closer. With scenes over the past few weeks of queues at airports and tales of cancelled flights, we are all hoping that things improve before the schools break up.

For many people, going abroad is something they have not done for a couple of years, so they are having to get back into preparing for an overseas trip. As well as checking the usual essentials such as travel insurance, sun cream and passports, it is now important to remember to check the COVID-19 regulations for the country you are travelling to, and those you are travelling through.

Some countries require proof of a negative test before entry, while others require the completion of passenger locator forms. You can find all the regulations on GOV.UK.

In addition to testing and locator forms, you will also need to check the vaccination requirements for the country and what proof of vaccination method you will need.

Most countries require travellers to be fully vaccinated. However, the timing of your last dose is also key for some countries. Many require your last dose to have been received within a certain timescale, for example within the last nine months. For people who have had two doses but have not yet had their booster, it may mean that your last dose is outside of the required time. Therefore, getting the booster jab will ensure that you are still classified as fully vaccinated and mean you can enjoy your holiday without any problems. The Waitrose vaccination site is running walk-in clinics, details of times and eligibility can be found at: www.frimleyhealthandcare.org.uk.

For those who are choosing a real staycation, staying at home and enjoying days out, we are lucky that Bracknell Forest and our surrounding boroughs have so much to offer, especially for families. From The Look Out with wonderful woodlands to explore where children can build dens, spot wildlife or enjoy the playground, to Coral Reef Waterworld with splash pads, pools and the water slides for the brave. For a special treat, Legoland and Windsor Castle are on our doorstep, as well as the River Thames with some scenic walks, so there really is something for everyone and every budget.

How ever you are planning on spending the summer holidays, I hope that the weather and travel arrangements are favourable for you all.
