ALMOST 300 incidents of exposure were recorded across the Thames Valley last year, new figures show. 

292 incidents of intentional exposure of male or female genitals were recorded in 2021, up 51 from 2020. 

However, data published by Thames Valley Police shows this is a fall from the figure recorded in 2017 when 341 exposure incidents were recorded. 

Unfortunately, the data does not show if any prosecutions came about from these incidents.

An offender can receive a prison sentence of up to two years for the misdemeanour under the Sexual Offences Act 2003. 

Responding to a freedom of information request, Thames Valley Police also disclosed the number of outraging public decency incidents recorded from 2017 to 2021. 

Outraging public decency is an indictable common law offence which involves carrying out an act which is lewd, obscene or of disgusting character, which outrages minimum standards of public decency.

Only 55 incidents were recorded in the first year of this range, but 270 were recorded in 2021. 

That is an increase of 390 per cent. 

Recordings of this offence have increased every year in between.
