The Bracknell born Conservative Party Vice-Chair sensationally resigned live on air last night after declaring Boris Johnson ‘no-longer has his support’.

MP for Hitchin and Harpenden Bim Afolami was born in Crowthorne and attended Bishopsgate School at Eton College before moving on to read history at University College, Oxford.

Mr Alofami, first elected as an MP in 2017 at the age of 31, said the Prime Minister doesn’t have “the support of the party or indeed the country” and called on the Mr Johnson to “step down”.

It came after the shock resignations of two of Mr Johnson’s senior cabinet ministers, Chancellor Rishi Sunak, and the Health and Social Care Secretary Sajid Javid, following anger about the Prime Minister’s handling of the Chris Pincher scandal.

Mr Johnson had earlier said he made a “big mistake” in hiring the MP as his deputy chief whip, who has been accused of sexual misconduct, but only after days of claiming he wasn’t aware of the allegations.

Mr Alofami made the comments during a live interview on Talk TV, which prompted the presenter to note his position as vice-chair.

“Probably not after having said that,” Mr Alofami replied.

He has held several Parliamentary Private Secretary roles, including for the Secretaries of State for International Development and International Trade, the Work and Pensions Secretary, the Foreign Secretary, and most recently for the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
