THOUSANDS of residents will have to adjust to a new bin collection day from next month.
Shinfield is changing its waste and recycling collection day to Wednesdays instead of Friday in the hope of being 'more efficient'.
The change will affect 1,162 residents in Shinfield from Wednesday, August 3.
Wokingham Borough Council and Veolia, the council’s waste and recycling collection partner, are working together to ensure the residents concerned are well informed of the change before it takes effect.
The council believe the change will bring many benefits from operational and environmental perspectives.
A new route for waste and recycling collection in Shinfield will be implemented, which is expected to minimise vehicle movements and make the operation more efficient.
The frequency of collection in the affected area will remain unchanged, with general waste, recycling and food waste collected every week. The fortnightly garden waste collection service will continue as usual.
Cllr Ian Shenton, the new executive member for environment, sport and leisure, said: “The collection day change is an example of our continued effort to build a greener borough. The new schedule means that the service will be more efficient and carbon emissions will be reduced. We appreciate residents’ understanding and co-operation in making the transition smooth and seamless.”
Garden waste collection will continue as normal.
Scott Edgell, General Manager for Veolia Wokingham, said:“We are committed to providing a quality service for Wokingham residents.
"Changing collection routes not only helps us reduce emissions, but the more streamlined operation will ensure that recycling and waste collections are more efficient for residents.”
