Berkshire customers are set to be affected again today as BT staff prepare for the second planned strike in a row over pay. 

BT Openreach engineers and call centre workers will walkout between 8am and 12pm across the borough, in what they claim is a “wake up call” to bosses at the telecoms company. 

A Communications Workers Union (CWU) spokesperson said Friday’s strike had been “rock solid” as the union pushes for a 10 per cent pay rise for workers to address the soaring cost-of-living. 

Strikers will be picketing at telephone exchange locations across the borough, including Barnsdale Road in Reading, Market Place in Bracknell, Wellington Street in Slough and West Street in Maidenhead.

“Our job is to balance the competing demands of BT Group’s stakeholders and that requires careful management, especially in a challenging economic environment.   

A spokesperson for Openreach said the company will do “everything it can” to keep customers connected whilst industrial action takes place. 

Whilst a CWU spokesperson said workers will “not sit idly by” and “watch their living standards crumble” after over 400 picket lines were manned across the country last week. 

“The public is fed up at the level of corporate greed in this country today, and our members will be out again [today] to tell BT Group that enough is enough,” the CWU spokesperson added.
