WITH a historial and vibrant scene, Bracknell Forest has no shortage of pubs.
And while we may be spoilt for choice with the wide variety available, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some closed watering-holes that we still think about.
We asked Bracknell News readers their most missed pubs on Facebook and, after more than 297 replies, here are the results...
The Red Lion
The Red Lion was located in the High Street. Others will now know it as Blue's smokehouse.
The pub is one of the few original buildings left in the town of Bracknell.
Caroline Stewart said: "The Red Lion, had some amazing nights there!"
The Jolly Farmer, Binfield
Another pub missed by many is the Jolly Farmer, located on Howe Lane. This pub closed in 2005.
It has now been demolished with a new private house built on the site.
Dave Start said: "The Jolly Farmer, Binfield. No lager, two bars , no fruit machines, no piped music, no TV and a bloke belting it out on the joanna on a Saturday Night and beer pulled straight from the barrel behind a curtain. Proper pub with an array of charecters . Now a house unfortunately."
The Blue Lion
The Blue Lion was situated on Broad Lane. This pub closed in October 2014 and was demolished in 2018 to make way for flats.
Resident Richard King said: "In the 1960s I went to Ranelagh School and the Blue Lion was conveniently placed opposite the entrance to the school drive. Whilst in the 6th form a few of us would occasionally, during free periods, pop down to the Blue Lion, in school uniform, and have a drink. As long as we were quiet and discreet the landlord was OK with this. Different times."
Andy Oliver said: "The Blue Lion was a great boozer when Gary Peters had it."
The Squirrels
Cranbourne residents said they were living “a nightmare” as the long-term closure of the community’s pub continues to make locals’ lives a misery.
The Squirrels Bar and Restaurant was closed in 2017.
But many have fond memories when it was open.
Rita Stewart, spoke to the News back in 2019 and said: "When I first moved to Winkfield it was packed every night. Now there’s absolutely nothing here."
Karla Edwards also said: "I had many a good night there in my twenties!"
Frisco Jacks
Not a pub as such but a closed nightclub many people miss dancing the night away to was Frisco Jacks.
Denise Deveney said: "I used to work there when it first opened. Bloody brilliant place."
The Running Horse
The Running Horse is a well-established eatery London Road, but it used to just be a pub.
Many residents still miss The Running Horse as a pub sharing memories from times gone by.
Leslye Makka McDonald said: "The Running Horse ,when it was just a pub, was jam packed friday and sat nights."
