The Lexicon has announced the closure of a popular womenswear retailer after finding it 'no longer commercially viable' to remain on the high street.

Following this news, readers took to social media to react about the closure about yet another store within the shopping complex.

Many have shown their regret over the closure of Seasalt Cornwall calling it ‘a brilliant store with great staff’.

Marijke rivers-andries said on Facebook: “It's sad! I love the staff in there. They are so professional and helpful! They will be missed.”

Over the last five years many stores have also opened and closed throughout the town, making it according to one reader a ‘revolving door of retailers.’

Some of the stores that have opened within the last year are Hobbs womenswear, O2 and Gymfinity Kids.

Some local residents have said that within this economy when the cost of living is rising, what is needed is a more affordable town centre that meets the needs of the everyday shopper.

George Froud voiced his views following the news of the closure. He said: “No surprise. Not many can afford £60+ on dresses at the moment. They seem to bring in higher end brands to try and lift the image but ultimately most people around Bracknell can't afford them.

“That's why they're going. Hobbs probably won't last long there either for the same reason.”

Coming up to it’s fifth birthday, the Lexicon has seen many wins and failures with some Bracknell shoppers championing it for it’s progression over the years.

“The Lexicon is fabulous considering what we had before. Amazing having places to go on our doorstep, not all shops are to my personal taste but I am still happy they are there,” said Wendy Menking.

“I remember all the time, energy and parking money I needed when we had to go to Reading for everything. I think it's a fantastic asset to our town.”

With the popularity of online shopping, it is often thought that the concept of brick and mortar retail is dying.

Ross McKenzie has said online that ‘it might take a while but lexicon will end up as empty as every other town.’

Another reader said: “So much more online perhaps if they had more choice in the shop it would have been used more.”

Something that was promised during the proposition of the regeneration project in 2017 was the introduction of ‘The Deck’ which would support the Lexicon with a bowling alley and gin bar.

Initially due to open in 2022, the project has been pushed back following delays in construction, shop openings and requests for funding.

Reader Roy Stallwood believes that ‘they need to get the deck finished as the new area will keep people coming back more often.’
