Plans have been submitted to construct a new 65-bed care home after demolishing the existing building.
The 1.25-acre site, situated on School Hill in Wargrave, is currently occupied by The Mount Nursing Home, which provides care for up to 37 residents.
The applicant, Belgian real estate agent Aedifica UK Limited, claims the existing building is “inefficient” due to its layout and lack of provisions.
Aedifica also states that the building in its current form doesn’t comply with contemporary building minimal standards, such as insulation, and is “coming to the end of its operational life”.

The proposed new part two and part three-storey building would double the number of available rooms, as well as providing communal areas and 29 parking spaces – with two extra allocated for disabled only.
The applicant claims the new development will address the shortcomings of the current care home, to include a greater level of communal spaces, better bathroom facilities by providing full wet rooms and new staff areas.
Recreational areas outlined in the plan include a cinema room, quiet lounges and communal lounges, as well as activity rooms and terraces.
If approved, it claims to be able to provide employment opportunities for the equivalent of 70 full-time members of staff.
