HOMES have been evacuated and the army drafted in after a suspected chemical leak at a block of flats in Bracknell.

Thames Valley Police, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue, and the Royal Logistics Core were scrambled to the scene of the incident at Tudor House, off Lynn Crescent on Sunday, September 25.

Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of a water leak at 5.30am.

On inspection of the water leak, some suspected chemicals were found in the building.

As a result, all residents of the flats and some nearby homes were evacuated away from the area while officers investigated what the chemicals were.

Neighbourhood police teams in Bracknell warned that emergency services and the Royal Logistics Core were expected to remain on site until 'at least' 6pm.

As a result, Bracknell Leisure Centre, in Bagshot Road, was set up as a 'rest centre' for those evacuated.

Around 7pm, police released a statement which said all residents evacuated had been able to return home.

Adding: "Thank you to all residents and the wider community for their support and cooperation while we have worked with our partners to make the area safe.

"Our thanks to Bracknell Forest Council, the Royal Logistics Corps, and Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service for their hard work."

The Royal Logistics Core have assessed the chemicals and concluded that the area has been deemed safe for residents to return.
