NatWest has announced the closure of a local Berkshire branch during its recent decision to continue towards an online-orientated service.

Wokingham NatWest located on Rose Street in Wokingham town centre will be closing it’s doors on February 9 2023 alongside 42 other banks across the country.

The UK's second-biggest lender said the vast majority of its retail banking services can be done online, while also being much quicker and easier than heading to a physical branch.

Despite this, only 6 jobs across the UK are said to be put at risk.

“As with many industries, most of our customers are shifting to mobile and online banking, because it’s faster and easier for people to manage their financial lives,” a NatWest spokesman said.  “We understand and recognise that digital solutions aren’t right for everyone or every situation, and that when we close branches, we have to make sure that no one is left behind.

“We take our responsibility seriously to support the people who face challenges in moving online, so we are investing to provide them with support and alternatives that work for them.”

NatWest have stated that between 2019 and 2022, counter transactions have decreased by 68% and the Wokingham branch is used by one personal customer on a regular basis.

NatWest banking can now be done at the Post Office in Wokingham, Embrook and Barkham.

Customers wishing to frequent a physical bank are said to travel to Bracknell for their nearest location to Wokingham.
