Halloween is almost upon us and with it comes a rise in paranormal sightings.
Where places have a rich and sometimes sordid history, sights of the afterlife are often a common occurrence.
Because of its old countryside mansions and deserted parklands, the Royal county of Berkshire is one of those areas that you are most likely to witness something out of the 'paranormal'.
Throughout Bracknell Forest we have found 11 different locations which have been described as some of the UK’s most haunted venues.
These are all places that you can visit as either a tourist or for your own paranormal visit. These are mainly in the form of a pub or countryside mansion.
The Stag and Hounds, Church Lane
This pub has been classed in the most haunted list because of the 'rarely seen' ostler who hanged himself in the stables.
The area where he committed his deathly deed is now part of the dining room.
Have dinner at the Warfeld pub and see if you can feel his presence.
The Yorkshire Rose, Warfield Street, Bracknell Forest
This is another Bracknell pub that was once built for another purpose. The building was once a staging post run by monks.
It comes as no surprise therefore that a spectral monk in a black habit has been seen in the past.
Today, there is stillparanormal activity including faint chanting that can often be heard.
The Spice Lounge, Three Legged Cross
Although this is now a popular Indian restaurant, the building was once a pub called the Three Legged Cross.
Although it has been many years, it is said that a ghost of a gypsy often hants the outside of the building.
This comes after an incident that was said to have happened 100 years ago. It was rumoured that she was barred from the property and then cursed the landlord who soon died.
It must be said that "No new hauntings have been recorded however."
The Old Farm, Warfield Road
Two girls and an elderly lady have been reportedly seen at the property.
The young girl is thought to be wearing a summer dress in the house and garden, often seen playing with another girl.
It is however not clear if these manifestations have continued.
The Old Manor, Church Road
Murmurings and the sighting of a figure in a cassock gazing down on punters have been mentioned here.
The figure is said to be a priest who was unearthed in a hiding place here and murdered.
A more recent drinker, known as Bert, is also said to frequent the place thirty years after he died.
South Hill Arts Centre
One of the resident spectres here is said to be a previous owner that was saddled with huge debts from the beautiful country mansion.
There have been reports of doors slamming, and a multitude of sounds such as footsteps, knockings, wailings, screams, giggling, whistling, banging’s and rattling.
Following a fire that once occured in the historical building, some of these paranormal sounds are said to originate from children who it thought died in the accident.
In addition to Major Rickman himself, visible phantoms include a Victorian woman in the studio theatre area (she may be the lady in a red dress on the staircase...?) and a "menacing" looking child, seen laughing in the hallways.
Both the interior and exterior of the countryside mansion has been kept in a traditional style reminent of the classic decor. Because of this, it is easy to se how there are often sightings and ghostly happenings.
Easthampstead Park
This stunning countryside hotel located in Wokingham is dated back to the Victorian age and therefore unsuprising that there is a little ghostly activity known here.
The ghost of an old cleaning lady has been seen in the area of the ornate staircase in the main hotel.
Old Huntsman's House, Ascot
Due to the proximity to Royal residences and parklands that are often infamous for ghost sighting's it is no suprise that the Old Huntsman's House is on the list.
Charles Davies, who once owned the house and was huntsman to Queen Anne, is said to haunt this building.
He died of a broken neck when he was thrown from his horse. A legend says that if a portrait of him is removed from the house, Davies will be seen until it is replaced.
Berystede Hotel, Sunninghill
Now a modern 4 star hotel, the house boasts high ceillings and beautiful interiors however unfortunately this isn't how it was in the beginning.
The ghost here is said to be Eliza Kleineger, the maid to Mrs Standish who owned the building.
She used to collect jewellery from her employees and it is thought that she tried to return to collect them when the original building was ravaged in a fire where she then died.
After the house was rebuilt as a hotel, her phantom was seen under the central gable, where the servant's staircase was originally located. This is where her body was found in 1886.
