It may not seem that long since 2012 but Bracknell has had a huge transformation that makes it almost unrecognisable.

Important landmarks have disappeared, buildings have upgraded and historic buildings shine brighter.

While some say the town is losing it’s charm as it expands, millions of pounds have been spent to regenerate the area, especially within the town centre.

We've taken a trip down memory lane using pictures from Google Street view taken from 2012 to 2022.

Take a scroll through our gallery below to see Bracknell as you remember it.

South Hill Park Arts Centr, 2012

Bracknell News:

South Hill Park, one of Berkshire's most historic public buildings was opened in 1973. With 24 acres of beautiful grounds, a woodland trail and the buzzing arts centre full of an array of activities it has always been a haunt for local residents.

However, as is clear in the picture, the building connected to the arts centre now called The Wilde Theatre stands unfinished even though it was opened in 1984 in memory of Oscar Wilde.

One similarity however is the presence of the distinctive cylintrical balls places within the courtyard.

Bracknell Train Station, 2012

Bracknell News:

As a popular communter town, Bracknell Train Station has always been a key landmark. With regular trains into Reading and London they are very few residents who have never seen the progress over the years.

Although the interior has been modernised, the exterior of the building has kept very much the same structure.

All that differs is the slight changing of the signs and the presence of trees outside the building giving the area a more asthetic feel.

The last Google map update of the train station was in 2019. It looks like it's time for an update guys!!

The Town Centre/high street, 2017

Bracknell News:

The oldest Google maps shot of Bracknell high street was during the regeneration of the town centre in 2017.

This shows the halfway point of the Lexicon project. Workmen could be seen across the town centre as everything decended into madness.

In the 2017 map however, the beloved Bentalls building is still standing for all to see in the town centre.

The next Google map image was taken just one year later. The shiny new shopping complex looks fantastic and some of the structures have disappeared.

Where there once stood the Bentalls department store, there is an advertisement for The Deck which is still in the works.

Bracknell News:

The two proud structures that once stood tall in the town centre are the Bandstand where many a teen used to go and the old department store which housed every brand you could ever need.

For a bit of nostalgic pleasure below is a image of the two structures in their hay day.
