A rural Berkshire village could be the location of a big new housing development after plans were submitted for dozens of homes.
Property developer Elivia Homes is hoping to build 68 new homes at 33 Barkham Ride in Finchampstead, following the demolition of all the existing buildings at the address.
The site, which is shielded from the road by a large gate, currently contains one detached residential house, a large workshop with a small office, a summer house and various other outbuildings – used for both residential and commercial purposes.
If approved, the developer wants to build a mix of housing types, 40 per cent of which would be earmarked as affordable housing (27 units).

A total of 41 properties would be sold on the open market, comprising of a mix of detached and semidetached two-bed to five-bed houses, as well as one two-bed chalet.
Its affordable housing provision would be broken down into a mix of one and two-bedroom flats, as well as two to four-bed houses.
The proposed development would be low rise, overwhelmingly consisting of two storey properties, with just one building within the site being three storey – located at the end of the main internal access road and on a corner to reduce its visual impact.
The buildings would be screened from Barkham Ride by “retaining and enhancing the existing street trees”, as well as by proposed new tree planting and landscaping.

The approximately three-hectare site has been confirmed as being suitable for residential development by both Wokingham Borough Council, having been proposed for allocation in the emerging Local Plan, as well as the Finchampstead Neighbourhood Development Plan.
Next door at 31 Barkham Ride is already being re-developed to accommodate luxury bungalows.
Much of the site is currently laid to lawn, with a single access drive leading from Barkham Ride to two large gravel parking areas.
A new vehicular access has been proposed off Barkham Ride, it has been positioned to avoid the need to remove any street trees.

Each house would have its own electric vehicle charging point, with more made available for flats wherever possible, and incorporate secure cycle parking spaces – located within the garages of those plots that have them or in a dedicated cycle for those units without.
Another huge housing development in Finchampstead reached a milestone earlier this month as ground was broken at the Gorse Ride site.
When complete, the project will see 249 new modern homes built, which includes 74 per cent affordable homes.
