This weekend’s shoppers in Bracknell don’t believe the last 12 years of Conservative government has improved their lives, according to a straw poll by the local Labour group.
Labour’s Town Council representative for Old Bracknell ward, Cllr Guy Gillbe, posted the results of the poll, which asked residents if their lives have got demonstrably better since the Conservatives became the UK’s primary governing party in 2010.
Cllr Gillbe said: “The results are clear. People have lost faith in the Conservative government. The promises made in 2010 have not been kept.”

Shoppers at The Lexicon on Saturday 26 were required to put a coloured ball into one of the three boxes provided, one declaring ‘NO’ life had not improved, one saying ‘YES’ it had, and another ‘NOT SURE’.
The results were 72 for ‘NO’ (84 per cent), eight for ‘YES’ (nine per cent), and six said ‘NOT SURE’ (seven per cent), according to the Bracknell Labour Party.
The group claim that the points raised by shoppers were often around the cost of living.

Labour handed out leaflets outlining some of its policy proposals, which included a one-off windfall tax on oil and gas companies to pay for an energy bill freeze, nationwide drive for home insulation, and energy independence.
Cllr Gillbe added: “People feel worse off under this government than they did before […] I had many people come up to me saying they’d always voted Conservative, but never again.”
