A primary school pupil has won Bracknell mayor’s Christmas card competition after beating a stream of other entries to the top prize.
After a huge number of students made submissions, the council said the sheer number of “excellent designs” made it “very difficult” to narrow it down to prize winners.
In the end, the mayoral team said there could “only be one winner” and chose Avery White, age 9, and a pupil at King’s Academy Oakwood, who was awarded a £20 gift voucher and a printed copy of her design.
Avery’s card was selected for its “bright colours”, following the chosen theme of ‘animals’, and Bracknell’s mayor, Cllr Ankur Shiv Bhandari, visited the school to personally present her with the prize.

Cllr Bhandari said: “I was pleasantly surprised by the number and quality of entries for this competition. My heartiest congratulations to the worthy winners and thanks to all the children who took part and to their parents and teachers to help facilitate this initiative.”
Second prize went to Tia Ashby of Holly Spring Primary School and third prize to Sienna Spencer, also of King’s Academy, who both won a £15 gift voucher.
A special mention went to Ronan Broadbridge, age 7, of St Joseph’s Catholic School, who was a close runner-up.
