Bracknell shoppers have said that it is a ‘real shame’ that the eco-friendly store, Four State’ has closed its Bracknell branch last month.

Four State, selling a host of re-usable and environmentally friendly products opened in the Lexicon in October 2022.

Following a successful run over Christmas they have decided not to extend their lease in the Lexicon to concentrate on other opportunities.

Following our initial story, announcing it’s closure, readers expressed their disappointment to see such a ‘lovely shop’ close.

With the surprising number of shops closing this year already, some shoppers have said that with exorbitant rent prices, they are not surprised that the shop was forced to close.

Known for their refillable skincare and body products, shoppers are now being forced to travel to further locations to be eco-friendly and more sustainable.

Lou Dossett said: “Four State was a lovely shop, the owner was a good bloke, I will miss it. Will have to go back to getting my refillables in Wokingham.”

Cherise Welch added: “A real shame as they sold high quality sustainable products. I hope the staff find other jobs quickly.”

One reader however advised those seeking refillable to head over to the Moss End Garden Centre, which hosts a variety of independent businesses.

A large number of shops have been disappearing from the high street, both in Bracknell and UK wide, including Paperchase.

Supporting local economy has been something promoted in many towns and cities. However, with large rent prices and online shopping becoming more attractive, some shops are struggling to last.

Nigel Adams said: “This isn't the first shop in the high street to close nor will it be the last. Unless you want high streets to become a place of the past, stop shopping online and support your local economy.”
