Neighbours in Wokingham have expressed dismay after one of the town’s main parks flooded recently.
April has seen changeable weather conditions, ranging from clement weather over the Easter weekend to periods of sustained rainfall.
A rain event this month was enough to flood out the play area of Cantley Park.
Photos posted by neighbour Haroon Butt show play equipment partially submerged in water.
Posting on the We are Wokingham Facebook page, Mr Haroon wrote: “Oh my God, over a million pounds paid for this” with a thumbs down emoji.

Other members of the group criticised Wokingham Borough Council for poor drainage planning, while others pointed out that the ground is already well saturated due to this March being the wettest in 40 years across England.
The council spent £450,000 on the play area, with a park upgrade project totalling £1.6 million reported in March last year.
In response, a council official stated a design change is being worked on to mitigate the issue.
Francesca Hobson, the council’s assistant director for environment and safety said: “We are aware of the occasional flooding issue at the new play area in Cantley Park during very heavy rainfall and the project team are working on some changes to the design to mitigate the problem.
“These works will take place after the summer holidays in order to allow our younger residents to continue to enjoy the park during the peak summer season.”
