FRUIT and vegetable picking is a popular activity when the sun comes out, so we have found some of the best 'pick your own' farms in Berkshire.

Here is where you can go to pick summer fruits and flowers this summer:

 

1. Gray’s Farm, Wokingham

Grey's Farm has an award-winning pick your own (PYO) farm and is celebrating 50 years of retail farming since 1973.

Berkshire's largest PYO is open now for strawberries, broad beans, gooseberries, cabbage, spinach, new potatoes, and rhubarb.

Writing on Grey's Farm website, a spokesperson said: "We have planted 50,000 (10 miles)of strawberries and 5,000 (2 miles) of raspberries for you to pick in 2023 – 2027, so please tell everyone we are still planning several years ahead."

The PYO is open Monday to Saturdays from 9am-6pm. There is no entry charge, just pay for what you pick.

 

2. Copas Farm, Cookham

Copas Farm has branches in Berkshire and Buckinghamshire and is a popular choice for picking your own fruit.

The PYO costs £4, to be refunded against the weight of the produce you’ve picked.

Asparagus, rhubarb, broad beans and strawberries and ready to be picked now. Raspberries, peas, blackcurrents, cherries and plums will be ready soon. There is also a farm shop on site selling homemade produce.

Copas Farm pick your own is open Wednesday to Sunday from 10am.

 

3. Micklems Farm, Knowl Hill

Micklems Farm is a four-acre area that produces flowers and fruit which are sold in bunches for collection on Thursday to Saturday. 

For limited times of the year you can PYO flowers (up to 30 stems per person).

4. Hildred’s, Reading

Hildred's in Reading has a smaller selection of locally grown fruit and vegetables, including asparagus and rhubard. 

Hildred's has been praised for its "affordable prices".

The pick your own is open from 2pm - 6pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays. It is open from 10am to 1pm on Saturdays and is closed on Thursday, Sunday and Monday.
