A large police presence was spotted at a carpark in Wokingham today (16/7) following an ‘overnight incident’.
Thames Valley Police were called to the Carnival carpark on Wellington Road last night where they erected a cordon at the entrance to the building.
According to local nearby businesses, marked police cars and unmarked cars were seen in the area and outside the sealed entrance to the carpark.
Despite the police presence, businesses in the vicinity were not affected.
Snr Assistant Manager of Burger King on Wellington Road, Pawan Shrestha said: “When I arrived at around nine o’clock, I was told that the carpark was closed because on an incident overnight.
“It wasn’t clear what happened, but police were here half of the day today. We did have people trying to park in our parking but generally it wasn’t a problem.”
An employee at Wokingham Leisure Centre said that they were made aware by their colleagues around 6:30am this morning that the carpark was closed.
She said: “We weren’t told what happened but a police officer came in and said that it wouldn’t affect us but the carpark would be closed for a while.”
The carpark was opened to the public and the cordon was removed around 2:30pm.
The News have contacted Thames Valley Police for a statement.
