TEEN fashion designer from Bracknell takes home the first-place prize in 2023 Royal Ascot fashion design competition.
Iola Gilder, 15, a student at Garth Hill College in Bracknell, was announced the winner of the Royal Ascot fashion competition after her design was made a reality with a trip to the LK Bennett HQ.
The annual competition sees Royal Ascot invite students, aged 15yrs+, from schools and colleges in the region to submit their designs for an outfit that can be worn in the Queen Anne Enclosure at Royal Ascot.
Iola had the opportunity to see her outfit turned into a reality with a trip to LK Bennett HQ in London, to choose fabrics and learn more about the design and production process.
Iola was also involved in the design of her own hat, working with leading designer Sarah Marshall of John Boyd Hats.
The designs were judged by LK Bennett, the Official Ascot Womenswear Sponsor, who were “particularly impressed by the quality of design” of Iola’s entry that “demonstrated design flare, creativity and elegance making it a perfect style choice for the Royal Meeting.”
After winning first place, Iola has been offered work experience with LK Bennett to continue on her career path in fashion, and her school will receive £300 for the fashion and textile department.
Commenting on her win, Iola said: “Thank you Royal Ascot for the most amazing day! I had a wonderful time and am still on a high after what was a fantastic day and experience!
“I’m still so beyond happy that I got picked and it has truly been such a pleasure working with LK Bennett and John Boyd, something I never would have been able to do if it wasn’t for Royal Ascot, definitely an experience I will never forget.
“Also a massive thank you to LK Bennett for offering me work experience! I am still speechless, I will forever be grateful for all their support and generosity. This whole experience is something I will never forget and I’m sure will change my life forever, I can’t wait!”
