The development of a brand-new McDonald’s restaurant has been proposed to take place in Bracknell.

On March 2023 a pre-proposal was put forward by McDonald’s Restaurant Limited to take over the Ford Car Dealership and garage on Downshire Way.

This will include a freestanding restaurant with drive-thru, carparking and landscaping of the current site.

In a supporting statement to Bracknell Forest Council, McDonalds said: “The proposal represents a multi-million-pound investment by a national operator in Bracknell and the restaurant is expected to employ more than 120 full and part time staff, which McDonald’s seeks to recruit from the local area.

“The site contains the former Ford showroom and garage, which were separated within the site shape to the front and rear of the site, from where the site narrows in the middle. Due to the particular shape of the site, the proposal seeks to locate the building to the rear of the site adjacent to the existing petrol filling station, with the car park to the fore.”

The existing McDonald’s restaurant and drive-thru, located at The Keep, is often acknowledged to be ‘overtrading’ according to reports.

Plans for the new eatery have outlined that the additional fast-food restaurant will provide an additional drive-thru restaurant to the north, to help ease this demand and also cater for the wider area.

McDonalds Restaurants Limited said: “The proposed restaurant on this site will seek to transfer some of the existing demand from The Keep, helping as part of the overall strategy within Bracknell to meet demand and improve on site traffic conditions.

“In summary, the proposal represents sustainable development of a prominent brownfield site, which will provide a range of local jobs to the area.”

The current proposal for the new restaurant has plans to fill 86 diners with 41 car parking spaces.

As outlined on the Transport report there will be space for 3 accessible bays, 3 Electric Vehicle Charging bays and 2 grill bays. This includes provisions for 4 motorbike spaces and 3 No Sheffield customer bike stands, for 6 cycle spaces.

The proposal is currently awaiting consideration from the council.
