Proposals for a brand-new McDonald's restaurant in Bracknell have been met with confusion and outrage.
On March 2023 a pre-proposal was put forward by McDonald’s Restaurant Limited to take over the Ford Car Dealership and garage on Downshire Way.
This will include a freestanding restaurant with a drive-thru, car parking and landscaping of the current site.
One reader has said: "Does Bracknell need a third branch of the same fast food chain, just a 20-minute walk or five-minute drive from two existing outlets?
"We are in an obesity epidemic, especially in children.
"I appreciate it will bring additional jobs, but at what cost?
"There are already multiple other eateries and takeaways in town, so this is wholly unnecessary."
The proposal, which is still awaiting consideration from the council, with see a multi-million-pound investment into the area, with 120 full and part-time jobs on offer.
An existing McDonald’s restaurant and drive-thru, located at The Keep, is often acknowledged to be "overtrading" according to reports - with the proposal stating a new store will "ease demand".
However, Carla Hughes disagrees and said: "Ridiculous to have two that close together."
Other locals have shared their concerns about traffic in the proposed location.
"The traffic at the Twin Bridges roundabout is already horrendous," said Karen Petford Jordan.
"How will having a McDonald’s right on it help?
"It will cause more congestion."
Lewis Burt added that despite this, it is "better than flats."
Many readers have stated their hopes to get a Burger King in the area - with the nearest ones in Wokingham and Aldershot.
Others suggested Lidl should open instead.
David Goddard added: "Rather see a proper place where you can have a decent meal instead of more American junk food."
"Right next to the Gym. How ironic," added Helen Beck.
Residents were quick to point out their hopes for more provisions such as doctors in the area.
Clifford McBride said: "Just what Bracknell doesn't need - another fast food outlet. We need doctors and dentists"
While Maggy Bristow joked: "Will the milkshake machine work?"
The current proposal for the new restaurant has plans to welcome 86 diners with 41 car parking spaces.
As outlined on the Transport report there will be space for three accessible bays, three Electric Vehicle Charging bays and two grill bays. This includes provisions for four motorbike spaces and three No Sheffield customer bike stands, for six cycle spaces.
