A mysterious humming noise has been heard echoing throughout the Berkshire countryside and nobody knows what it could be.
One resident who first noticed the strange high-pitched noise has pondered the origin of the humming which is seemingly disturbing the air in the beautiful and peaceful Berkshire village.
Tom Rushgrove first noticed the sound two months ago at his home in the heart of Crowthorne village.
The Crowthorne resident said: “It’s very strange. I don’t know if other people can hear it but instead of going to sleep in silence, I now fall asleep with the high-pitched humming sound.
“Although it isn’t keeping me up, it is frustrating that I don’t know where it is coming from.
“It might be my age or maybe I have a higher sensitivity to the sound but I haven’t spoken to any neighbours who have heard it.
It is suspected that the noise is coming from a generator at the nearby housing development.
This is the second time in the last few years that a high-pitched humming noise has been heard in the area.
North Ascot Residents Association launched an investigation in 2020 after a constant humming in Ascot was enough to keep a particular resident awake.
In 2019, The Guardian reported on a person called Philip Jaekl who said they could hear The Hum.
They quote: "Up to 4% of people around the world are thought to hear the strange, low-pitched noise. Its actual source is unknown, though many hearers are in urban areas, suggesting it could be some form of noise pollution."
Have you heard of the strange humming noise in Crowthorne?
