Strictly Come Dancing star Krishnan Guru-Murthy has revealed there will be a “defibrillator for him somewhere in the building” during his time on the BBC series.

The Channel 4 broadcaster was diagnosed with a heart condition known as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

The 53-year-old said the genetic health issue took the lives of two of his cousins and now means he has to “be sensible and listen to his body.”

He told The Mirror: “For somebody like me, I’ve got that condition that Elvis had and footballers have when they can suddenly drop… you know that one.

“The task for me is more about training and not raising my heart level for long periods of time than dancing a two minute dance.

“It’s about having a rest, and I’m very good at having a rest. There isn’t an ambulance on standby for me, but there will be a defibrillator for me somewhere in the building.

“Yes, I have a heart condition but it doesn’t mean you can’t do Strictly.”

Krishnan recently explained to the publisher that he asked his cardiologist if “he might drop dead live on BBC One."

He added: “'No’, was his answer. But he couldn’t give me an absolute guarantee.

“I have to be careful of raising my heartbeat into the red zone; that final 15%. I shouldn’t go there. It’s where people with my condition drop dead.”

Strictly star Bobby Brazier leaves dad Jeff Brazier in tears

EastEnders favourite Bobby Brazier left his dad Jeff Brazier in tears during ITV’s National Television Awards (NTAs) earlier in the week.

The 20-year-old received the Rising Star award which was voted for by the public for his role as Freddie Slater on the BBC soap.

Bobbie dedicated the award to his dad and TV presenter during his acceptance speech on stage, leaving the 44-year-old being comforted by his son’s fellow EastEnders cast-mate Molly Rainford.

In his speech, he said: "This actually has very, very, very little to do with me and everything to do with my dad.

“Over the course of the last 20 years, I have consistently heard him say 'because I can'.

“It was a mantra or a moto of his, and him just saying that it's... Because I can!"

Bobby is also the son of the late Big Brother star Jade Goody who died from cancer in 2009.
