“She touched the hearts of so many during her 16 years.”
These are the heart-breaking words from the friend of a Bracknell family whose daughter tragically and suddenly passed away in her sleep last month.
Mia Gauci Lamport, 16, from Crownwood, was born with a rare condition called Ohtahara syndrome, which interferes with muscle function due to an altered brain structure.
This has caused Mia to experience severe epilepsy, which led to her experiencing numerous seizures, infections, sepsis, and even Covid.
Despite her diagnosis, the family has said that Mia’s death has been a shock for everyone.
To ensure that Mia is given the send-off she deserves, a GoFundMe has been created by Vicki Dennis, who has known the family for nearly 30 years.
She said: “I’ve known Jennifer, Mia’s mum, since we were 11 years old so she’s a lifelong friend. Mia was a very special little girl. When she tragically passed away I just wanted to do something to help with the funeral and to help Jennifer financially while she’s going through the worst time of her life.
“It’s the first thing I thought of to just try and help and it’s been amazing. The amount of money we’ve raised so far has been outstanding.
“She was just so loving and a joy to be around. Even though she couldn’t communicate with you quite well, she still used to smile when you sat with her and she was just adorable. Mia had so much strength and resilience."
Although she was born in Bracknell, the teenager spent a lot of her time at the Children’s Trust where she was able to receive physio and normal classroom activities alongside other patients with long-term brain injuries.
The funeral, which will take place on October 20 at Easthampstead Crematorium will be a celebration of her life.
Vicki added: “We want her to be remembered the best way possible. The funeral is going to be themed so everyone has to wear a little pink and it’s to do with rainbows and unicorns.
“It’s more like a celebration of her life rather than a funeral. Everyone is getting a little gift bag with candles to light for her.
“Mia was very dear to me and so are her family. Funerals are so expensive, and I just like helping people. Whatever I can do to help people I want to help as much as I can.”
So far, £1,822 has been raised for Mia’s funeral fund. Touching messages of support have also been left offering condolences to the family.
Chantelle Fannan said: “Mia holds a special place in my heart, thinking of the whole family.”
