A major chocolate bar maker based in Slough has announced a sweet treat worth £25,000.
Mars Wrigley UK’s Celebrations has created a solid Gold Bounty bar as part of a Christmas competition.
Chocolate lovers now have the chance to win the solid gold replica of a Bounty Bar made of 9-carat gold weighing over 1kg.
It is "one-of-a-kind", with the potential for its value to increase over time as the cost of gold increases.
Mars says its festive campaign is intended to boost the appeal of the "divisive" Bounty bar.
Bounty blue tickets are hidden in tubs on sale at supermarket Tesco and also include other cash prizes of up to £10,000. Shoppers have a chance to find winning tickets in their tubs of Celebrations available from stores up and down the country.
Every ticket-finder is a winner with 500,000 opportunities to win.
In a previous survey of 2,000 adults for Celebrations, Bounty came bottom of the pile for popularity with over half of Brits – 52 per cent – admitting that the coconut-filled bars are their last pick and a third – 32 per cent – revealed they throw unwanted chocs away.
Mars first responded in 2021 with the Bounty Return Scheme, launched with a Christmas ad telling the story of a human Bounty that finds festive love with an equally unpopular Christmas staple, a Brussels sprout.
Then continuing last year, the chocolate giant trialled controversial 'No Bounty' tubs in the run-up to Christmas.
However, admitting that this drastic move “caused pain”, Mars pulled a major U-turn last month by releasing a limited run of 'Bounty-only' boxes available in selected Tesco stores until Christmas.
To celebrate the launch of the Golden Bounty competition, Mars has enlisted Bargain Hunt's Danny Sebastian to #BringHomeTheBounty as he stars in spoof daytime antiques film with Mr. Bounty himself.
Danny said: “As a Bounty lover myself it’s been hard to see the treatment the poor coconut choc has received over the years so I’m glad we’re pushing for #BringHomeTheBounty this time round.
"I’ve seen lots of valuable items in my time, but this one-of-a-kind golden Bounty bar is up there with the best of them - it’s a wonderfully unique decorative display piece that will dazzle and delight all who look upon it.”
Kerry Cavanaugh, Mars Wrigley’s UK, Business Unit Director, said: “Every year, we love seeing the debate rage over our beloved Celebrations tubs. This year, our much-loved Bounty bar has gone Gold.
"The Bounty bar is worth £25,000, which surely is enough to make even the most dedicated Bounty-haters reconsider their stance."
