Grass verges could be scrapped in favour of new parking spaces in Great Hollands if councillors sign off on the plans.
Bracknell Forest Council wants to build two separate blocks of three spaces each on patches of grass near the entrance to Holland Pines, just off Great Hollands Road. But members of the council’s planning committee will first have to give their approval.
Council staff say councillors should approve the plans. They say that as the spaces are proposed in a built up area near other parking bays, they wouldn’t have a negative impact on the area. Staff also say that hedges are proposed to soften the impact on the area.
Planning officers say: “The proposed bays are not considered to have a significant detrimental impact on the street scene as there are existing areas for parking within close proximity. The provision of hedging is considered to soften any visual impacts.

“This is currently a built-up residential area containing existing parking spaces; it is therefore considered that the proposal would not result in an unacceptable adverse level of noise and disturbance to the local residents.”
Three of the parking spaces would be built near an early mature red maple tree. But the council’s tree service says the tree is “more than likely” to withstand the impact of the bays.
They say as long as temporary protection measures are in place there will be “no significantly detrimental long term effects on its health, structural integrity or life expectancy.”
Bracknell Forest Council granted planning permission to a similar plan to build five parking spaces on two grass verges on Latimer, in Birch Hill, in October this year. Councillors are set to make their decision on the current plans on Thursday, December 14.
