With many worrying about the cost of Santa’s grottos or even simply finding time to do Christmas things with family, Brook Allston said that she and her family wanted to do something to take the pressure off.
The Allston family in Bracknell has been offering their neighbours free Santa meet and greets for three years running.
“It’s a massive point for us that people know we don’t want anything in return,” she said. “It’s a day for everyone to enjoy and not panic over.”
Starting back in 2020, the family decided they wanted to give back to the community after the hardships faced during covid.
Ms Allston said she felt that as so many people were struggling, she and her family wanted to do something to spark a little joy.
“I have always been passionate about giving back and helping where I can.
“After lockdown and the difficult time people were going through, we decided that we should ease some pressure and separate the Christmas cheer.”
Ms Allston’s grandfather who has always been a bit of a handy-man was then instructed to build a large throne for the big man to sit.
For the first year, the family supplied everything for people to come and see Father Christmas, have drinks and sweet treats, and enjoy some music.
Over the last few years, they have been helped by their local pub The Bridge which has supplied presents for Santa to give the children.
In a post by Ms Allston she said: “To get into the Christmas spirit and celebrate the last Sunday before the Christmas mayhem, please feel free to come by for some Christmas surprises.
“Santa and his elf will be there handing out hot chocolate and other treats, all completely free.”
The huge red and white chair sits in front of their house flanked by two large nutcrackers. A Christmas tree with presents stands behind Santa’s throne with a spattering of snow around it.
Last year they also added a letter box for children to post their Christmas lists to Santa, and children are instructed to add their address so he can reply to them.
The annual tradition will be held this year on Sunday December 17 from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm, and everyone is invited to come along and enjoy the festivities.
Ms Allston said: “This day has now become a family tradition and loads of our family and friends help to bring this day to light.”
To see Santa this Sunday head to 7 fanes close, RG42 1UR (next door to the bridge pub, Priestwood) Bracknell.
