A bank on Bracknell High Street has announced it’s closure.
Barclays, located at 1 High Street, has announced online that it will be closing this year as it looks to axe more of its major branches across the UK.
In a report released by Barclays, it was outlined that only 130 customers regularly use their branch services as their only way of banking.
A spokesperson for Barclays Bank said: “Back when we opened this branch, visiting us in person was one of the only ways to do your banking.
“Now, as there are lots of ways to manage your money without even leaving your home, we’re seeing many customers choosing to bank using our app, and online or Telephone Banking. This has had a big impact on the number of customers coming to see us.”
Although the current premises will be closing, Barclays has explained that their customer service advisors will be available to help with in-person day-to-day banking enquiries in the town. Details of this however have not been finalised.
This will however not include access to cash on site.
The closure of several bank branches across Berkshire has caused concerns among the elderly who may not have the ability to access their bank accounts and statements online.
A Barclays spokesperson added: We’ll be working with the local community to understand the impact of closing this branch. We want to reassure you that we’re here to help.”
Other methods of banking that have been outlined by the bank in the report are online banking and the Barclays app, the post office, telephone banking, digital eagles and money mentors, and cash machines.
The Bracknell Barclays branch will close on Friday, May 17.
It comes as nationally we are seeing a switch to online and mobile banking, with banks seeing less and less face-to-face interactions.
Around 400 banks have either closed or have said they are closing across the UK in the last year; including Barclays, Lloyds, Natwest, Halifax and HSBC.
