An evening meal that ended in a fright when restaurant-goers witnessed a "shot" go through the front window, was not attended by police.

On Tuesday, February 13, just one day before couples would fill restaurants on Valentine's Day, an alleged shot was fired at a restaurant window, causing flying glass to cut a waiter's face.

Police failed to attend despite getting a report from Sultan Balti House on Great Hollands Square at 7:30pm - where the incident took place.

A statement was released by Thames Valley Police the following day which read: "An investigation into this is ongoing and we are keeping an open mind into the circumstances of the incident.

"Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or make a report online quoting reference 43240070730."

A week on police said that the investigation is ongoing and residents may see an increased police presence in the area.

Following the event Bracknell Forest Mayor councillor Naheed Ejaz slammed the police inaction.

In response to the criticism, a police spokesperson said: "All incidents are assessed based on the threat, harm and risk, and are prioritised accordingly.

"Incident response times can depend on how many officers are available to respond, the number of staff able to take calls, the workloads of officers and where response officers are based.

"The incident was prioritised accordingly and based on these factors officers did not attend on the evening of the incident.

"Officers made contact with the victim and the person who reported the incident the following morning.

"The force has a complaints procedure, which allows members of the public to make a complaint about the force or a member of our workforce."
