A car meet hotspot which has become a nuisance to local residents is set to see some major changes.

The Tesco car park in Sandhurst has recently seen a spate of noisy car meets fuelling anti-social behaviour in the area.

Last month James Sunderland MP took to X (formerly Twitter) to vent his frustrations, stating: "I have repeatedly raised concerns about anti-social car meets at The Meadows in Sandhurst. Local residents are sick of it. It is time now for action".

Having spoken to Tesco, Thames Valley Police and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Thames Valley, Mr Sunderland has now confirmed Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras will be installed at the entrance to the car park.

Similar anti-social behaviour deterrents have been introduced by neighbouring supermarket M&S which have electric barriers to limit entry.

Mr Sunderland added: "The new ANPR cameras will bring many deterrent benefits, including the monitoring of target vehicles, gathering of evidence and a £70 fine for any vehicle that exceeds the maximum permitted stay. Those shopping legitimately should not be affected."

Installation is expected to take up to three months and signs will be in place to warn of the changes.

"The presence of ANPR cameras is a significant step forward in tackling noisy car meets," Mr Sunderland added.

Thames Valley Police are currently in the process of issuing tickets for anti-social driving offences.
