Bracknell Forest Council has proposed a £4.3 Million resurfacing project across the town following recent conversations with people within the community.
This comes as the new £6.9 Million highway improvement plan has been proposed to improve roads, pavements and cycleways across the borough.
Discussions by the decision-making executive will take place on March 19 to decide which areas would benefit the most from the works if carried out.
The presence of potholes has been a big issue across Berkshire over the last few years with drivers reporting damage to their vehicles after driving over damaged road surfaces.
Cllr Guy Gillbe, executive member for planning and transport has confirmed that this budget for resurfacing would be £1.7m more than the current programme.
This however is not expected to cover all of the repairs that have been reported on Bracknell Roads.
He said: “Should the executive approve the plans on 19 March, we will spend more than £4.3m on improving the condition of the borough’s roads over the next 12 months.
“While an increase to £4.3m for resurfacing roads is good news, we have more than 280 miles of road to maintain in the borough, so not every issue in Bracknell Forest can be fixed over the next year.
“However, the council’s 2024/25 budget sets out that we will direct an additional £5m in capital funding toward road repairs over the next four years, so there will be further improvements to come beyond March 2025.”
As well as the resurfacing works, the executive will be proposing money to be put aside for several road safety schemes, extra residential parking and highway and pedestrian improvements.
Rebuilding bridges and replacing damaged streetlights to increase safety for pedestrians and drivers are also on the list of proposed changes in the next year.
Prior to discussions about the highway improvements, Bracknell Forest Council has spoken to local communities to align their plan with the needs of residents.
The proposed roads for resurfacing include:
- The A329 Berkshire Way (between the Wokingham boundary and Jennett’s Park roundabout).
- The A330 Maiden's Green (between Winkfield Street and Bracknell Road).
- The A3095 Mill Lane (between the Hanworth roundabout and Wildridings roundabout).
- The A322 Bagshot Road southbound (between the Coral Reef junction and Swinley gyratory).
A further £150,000 is due to be spent on drainage improvements and over £1m is earmarked for electrical repairs to restore faulty streetlights.
