Berkshire's newest film and television studios have had a hand in producing some of the biggest blockbusters.
Shinfield Studios is in the final stages of completing its state-of-the-art facility, with some dubbing it "the new Hollywood" after a surge in big movie hits coming out of the studio.
Most recently Ghostbusters Frozen Empire premiered in cinemas after Berkshire was chosen as its filming location - with crews using both Shinfiled Studios and Stage Fifty's Winnersh Studios.
Behind-the-scenes snaps show the filming and all-star cast on set, including Paul Rudd, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, McKenna Grace, James Acaster, Annie Potts and Carrie Coon.
Wokingham Borough Council has shared that local work experience opportunities are already going ahead at the two studios and members of the community are delighted to see the productions taking place in the area.
The latest Star Wars show, The Acolyte, was also filmed at Shinfield Studios.
Shinfield Studios currently boasts 13 soundstages already available for TV and production companies, a further five studios will be fully operational in the next few months after two and a half years of construction.
Disney and Sony are amongst the companies known to have filmed at the studios.
Nick Smith, Joint Managing Director, Shinfield Studios, previously said: “Shinfield Studios now looks just like the plans we put to paper several years ago. Not only does it feel like a slice of Hollywood in Berkshire, it also offers producers everything that we promised.
“That’s to say a modern studio facility that has been carefully designed from the ground up to meet all the needs of the most ambitious film and HETV productions. We really have considered every detail.”
In October 2023 the studios launched Screen Berkshire, aimed at encouraging people into the field with a three-year course.
Winnersh Film Studios is also a relative newbie to the area having launched in November 2021.
It boasts the world's largest virtual production stage, alongside six sound stages including high-quality stage space and is supported by offices and workshops.
George Clooney's The Boys in the Boat used Winnersh Studio for filming last year.
Since then a further film studio at Winnersh Triangle Business Park has been approved by the council.
Once built, the area will have a further two film sound stages and eight workshops.
Berkshire is not a stranger to big blockbusters and TV hits, with the likes of Harry Potter and Netflix hit Heartstopper using the county as a backdrop.
Film Officer at Berkshire Film Office, Daisy Golledge, said: "Berkshire is full of versatile and diverse locations that can cater to any production as well as multiple studios, great transport links, local crew and Production Facilities.
"As well as maintaining Berkshire as a film-friendly county, filming on-location such as this has other benefits. When a film production comes to an area, they need hotels for their crew, food, and parking, all of which aids towards local economic growth."
The Berkshire Film Office is funded by the six borough councils of Berkshire to facilitate filming on council-owned land.
