New roadworks on Nine Mile Ride are set to last until the end of August – with rolling temporary traffic lights between New Wokingham Road and the railway bridge near Bramshill Forest.
Wokingham Borough Council says this will take place as current works on New Wokingham Road were set to finish ahead of schedule, on Sunday April 14. But it said the new work won’t begin until traffic management measures are removed from New Wokingham Road.
A council email newsletter said: “Following multiple leaks in the gas network, SGN are replacing the old metal gas pipes with new plastic pipes and are due to finish their current works on New Wokingham Road by April 14.
“The works on Nine Mile Ride will not start until New Wokingham Road is clear of traffic management.

“Rolling temporary traffic lights will be in place during the works between New Wokingham Road and the railway bridge, which are due to finish at the end of August.”
The works are the latest phase in a project by gas network SGN to replace old pipes.
SGN said: “Following multiple leaks in our gas network, we will be replacing the old metal gas pipes with new plastic pipes in Nine Mile Ride and at the junction of Old Wokingham Road and Nine Mile Ride.
“This work needs to be started urgently to enable us to continue to provide a safe and reliable gas supply and to minimise the risk of further leaks in the area.”
