‘GENEROSITY and good humour’ was, once again, central to a hugely successful Wokingham May Fayre as the rain couldn’t dampen the town’s community spirit.
Hundreds of revellers turned out in the rain to support one of Wokingham’s biggest events in the calendar - and it did not disappoint!
Wokingham May Fayre was a smash hit despite worries from organisers Wokingham Lions Club that the drizzly weather forecast may put people off.
A post from the club on social media said: “Thank you to everyone who supported and attended yesterday’s Wokingham Lions Club May Fayre – despite all the challenges presented by the rain.
“We were a bit worried as we saw the forecasts for the day – this is such an important event for many of Wokingham’s charities, community groups and small businesses – and we were concerned how many might turn up.
“But the Wokingham community came together, got out their umbrellas and turned out to support the event with their generosity and good humour, for which we are incredibly grateful.”
The day brought with it a host of stalls and community stands to the town centre, plus fun, games and attractions for all the family.
The event is held annually to raise funds for local causes with support from a number of businesses and organisations, including Wokingham Town Council, the Wokingham Society, Nuffield Health and Volker Highways.
The Wokingham Lions Club statement added: “We’ve already heard from some of the charities attending that they equalled - or even exceeded - how much they raised last year, and we’ll be announcing how much the whole event raised soon.”
