Wokingham Borough Council has announced the opening of the new Twyford Library after transforming an old historical landmark.
Currently located on Polehampton Close, the site will close on June 1 to get ready for the opening of the new building on Thursday, June 13.
The new library will open in the newly refurbished Old Polehampton Boys School on the opposite side of the close.
The beautiful new space will benefit from improved library spaces with high ceilings and large windows letting in natural light. These are features retained from the original historic structure.
The new library also includes a specially designed children’s area, and a new extension which offers an accessible entrance and additional space.
Cllr Stephen Conway, leader of the council, said: “Local libraries offer so much more for people than just books. They offer a lifeline for the community, and especially for those who might be struggling or feeling isolated.
“Libraries really are at the heart of their communities and I’m proud that we’ve been able to deliver this fantastic new facility for Twyford and bring this important local landmark back to life. This project has been a real labour of love for all involved and we can’t wait to share it with you when it opens next Month.”
