Sunningdale Parish Council has announced that ongoing work to improve a crucial part of a recreation ground is currently experiencing a long delay.

This is due to the extremely wet winter we all saw here in Berkshire, especially considering the county's lengthy flooding.

Because of this, work on the Teen Scene Play Area and Footpath of the recreation ground has seen a lengthy delay.

During both the months of January and February, our town saw a long period of flooding, especially affecting ground flooding areas and low level lands that are prone to becoming water-logged.

A spokesperson for the parish council has released a statement explaining why this has happened, and encouraging residents to be patient.

The spokesperson said the following statement: "Due to the severe wet weather over the winter, the area from the brook became flooded and the (muddy) field has been badly damaged by construction machinery.

"The area is currently unsafe to open."

The council has also advised that now the weather is improving it has come to light that additional groundworks are needed to make the area safe and level in preparation for new playground surface areas to be installed.

The Parish Council is disappointed the project has not met the time frames expected and apologises to all residents and users of the park for the unfortunate situation.

The spokesperson continued: "We are organising contractors to return to site as soon as possible to finish the project to the standards required."
